My Teaching Practice

My very first teaching practice experience was a very insightful one. I have learned so much about myself, my abilities, skills that I never knew I had. I always thought that I would be a "sweet", "nice" teacher whom everyone would like, but the reality is so much different. Standing in front of a classroom filled with students who has no respect or discipline is a very tough and terrifying thing.

You start to think of all the different- and of course the best way to approach the situation. I had to be strict, tough and firm, realizing that being "sweet' and "nice" does not make good teacher and being "tough" and "firm" does not make you a bad one. I believe that every student deserves to be taught by a great teacher. So, if being a great teacher means that you sometimes has to be firm and tough than so be it. As long as my students learn something valuable from me, that's all that matters. I have learned that it is also very important to remember that to earn respect you have to give respect. So as a teacher, I should always respect my students and consider that they are human first, before they are anything else.

I have grown so much since my first teaching practice experience and can not wait to grow even more until I become the kind of teacher I should and want to be.
